18/09/2012: Skipton Junior Triathlon - now open for entries
Local triathlon club, Craven Energy is holding a junior triathlon at Craven Swimming Pool and Fitness Centre and Aireville Park on Saturday 6th October.
Craven Energy is appealing for young people aged 8-14 from across Craven to come and take part.
The event will consist of three races for three different age ranges; 8-9, 9-11 and 12-14 involving a swim, a bike ride and finally a run around Aireville Park. There are different distances for each age category and the overlap for age 9 is to allow for variations in swim, bike and run ability.
Craven Energy Club Chairman Declan Hayes said: "We'd already had quite a number of enquiries from children and their parents about junior triathlon training opportunities and then the Brownlee brothers became national names with their fantastic achievement at the Olympics. We've now seen a huge surge of interest and so we are delighted to be holding our 3rd junior event so soon after the Olympics to give children the chance to emulate their heroes. Anyone between the ages of 8-14 can take part. It doesn't matter whether you're a seasoned competitor or a complete novice as long as you can swim the full distances comfortably and are prepared to complete all three sections."
Age ranges 8-14 as follows:
Age 8-9: 2 length swim (50M), 750M bike, 500M run
Age 9-11: 4 length swim (100M), 1500M bike, 1000M run
Age 12-14: 8 length swim (200M), 2250M bike, 1500M run
Cost of entry is £10 for age 8-9 £15 for age 10-14. The event is run by volunteers and is non profit making. The cost is to cover the timing chips that will be used on the day.
Declan concluded " Triathlons are great fun and you just can't beat the sense of satisfaction you get from completing one so we're hoping all these young budding Brownless across the region will come and take part in what's shaping up to be a great event."
