Housing Strategy
All councils in England have a duty under the Local Government Act 2003, to produce and publish a housing strategy setting out its key priorities for housing. As the local housing authority, Craven District Council's Housing Strategy contributes towards the Council's vision of 'ensuring sustainable towns and villages with access to suitable housing and excellent local services'.
Homelessness Strategy
The Homelessness Act 2002 requires local authorities to carry out periodic reviews of its homelessness services and publish a strategy to tackle homelessness within a local context.
How Social Housing is allocated
Access to good-quality housing improves lives and is a foundation of strong communities. Social landlords are the bodies that own and manage social housing. They tend to be non-commercial organisations such as local authorities (councils) or housing associations.
Council housing
The council house, otherwise known as a local authority house, is a form of public or social housing. Council houses were built and operated by local councils to supply uncrowded, well built homes on secure tenancies at reasonable rents to primarily working class people.
Gypsy and Traveller Sites
This page provides information regarding the provision and management of permanent or transit sites for use by travellers within the area and guidance concerning the unauthorised use of land by traveller communities.
Grants and Loans
Grants and loans may be available for private sector housing renewal: for homeowners, landlords and private tenants to make repairs and improvements to their homes.
