In the budget delivered on 11 March 2020, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced measures that will affect business rate payers.
- increases of retail discount (now 100% for qualifying properties) and pub relief (now £5,000 for qualifying properties) for 2020/21 only
- small business grants of £3,000 to businesses currently eligible for small business relief or rural rate relief
(Para. 1.100 refers to further increases of retail discount and para 1.101 refers to small business grants.)
This is the only official information currently available. We are not yet able to advise ratepayers in the Craven district how these changes will apply to individual cases.
Once the regulations and guidance are available from central government then the levels of retail discount and pub relief will be adjusted and amended bills will be sent. This will also apply to the issuing of small business grants. We don't know when this will be until the guidance is issued by government.
