2021 Craven Community Champions Award Categories

There are seven Community Champions Awards categories for you to nominate your local champion.

Award nominations closed on January 11th 2022.

All shortlisted entrants will be invited to an awards evening at the Coniston Hotel on March 3rd 2022.

Arts and Culture Award

Sponsored by Alexander's Grand Café, Terrace and Bar

The Arts and Culture Award celebrates a community group or individual that have made a contribution to arts, heritage or cultural activities in their community or the wider District.

The Awards Panel would be interested in knowing how your nominee has;

  • Helped to make arts and culture accessible to everyone in the community
  • Been creative in making the most of the resources available to them
  • Helped to promote innovation and excellence in the arts

Nominate Community Champions yourself or someone else to win the Arts and Culture Award

Previous winners of the award include: Settle Amateur Operatic Society, Cantores Salicium, Team Ketchup, Skipton Embroiders Guild, Joan Murray, Pioneer Projects and Settle Victoria Hall 

Greener Craven Award

Sponsored by Smart Solutions Recruitment

The Greener Craven Award recognises a community group or individual that have made a contribution to enhancing their local environment or the wider District. This could be cleaning up a green space or starting a recycling initiative or starting an allotment group or organising a clothes swap.

The Awards Panel would be interested in knowing how your nominee has;

  • Motivated and inspired others to get involved
  • Made a positive difference and how they have improved the environment for their community
  • Actively promoted environmental issues within their community

 

Nominate Community Champions yourself or someone else to win the Greener Craven Award.

Previous winners of this award include: Craven Crew, The Friends of Embsay with Eastby Nature Reserve, Embsay Primary School, Long Preston Floodplain, Gawflat Meadow, Pioneer Projects and Langcliffe Community Garden.

 

Sport and Recreation Award

Sponsored by Craven District Council 

The Sport and Recreation Award recognises an amateur sports club, community group or individual that have have made an outstanding contribution to amateur sport, physical activity or play in their community or the wider District.

The Awards Panel would be interested in knowing how your nominee has;

  • Motivated and inspired others to participate in physical activity
  • Helped to make physical activity more accessible to everyone in their community
  • Helped to promote excellence in their field of activity

 

Nominate Community Champions yourself or someone else to win the Sport and Recreation Award.

Previous winners of this award include: Sutton Juniors Football Club, North Ribblesdale RUFC, Craven Energy Triathlon Club, Walter Tooby, Jim Lockyer, Ben Holderness and Anita Hoggarth.

 

Health & Wellbeing Award

The Health & Wellbeing Award recognises a community group or individual that has made a contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of local people by providing care to vulnerable people, bringing the community together to look after each other or helping people to live healthier lives in their community or the wider District.

The Awards Panel would be interested in knowing how your nominee has;

  • Made a positive difference to improving the well-being of residents
  • Motivated and supported people to live healthier lives
  • Brought people together to help vulnerable people in their community

Best Community Group Award

The Best Community Group Award recognises a voluntary or community group that has made a positive impact on people's lives or has made a significant contribution to their community or in the wider District.

The Awards Panel would be interested in knowing how your nominee has;

  • Made a positive difference to and improved the well-being of a community
  • Encouraged new members to get involved
  • Made itself accessible and welcoming to everyone in the community

Previous winners of the award include: Friends of Aireville Park, Skipton & Craven Parents Group, Scoff Cafe, Carleton Community Umbrella, Yorkshire Housing Computer Club and Street Angels  

 

Volunteer of the Year Award

Sponsored by Keelham Farm Shop

The Volunteer of the Year Award rewards an individual who has made an outstanding contribution through volunteering in 2020/21.

The Awards Panel would be interested in knowing how your nominee has;

  • Shown commitment to a cause or organisation
  • Acted as a role model/ambassador for volunteering
  • Motived and inspired others to get involved in their cause or organisation
  • Made a positive difference and has improved the well-being of residents or the community in general

 

Nominate Community Champions yourself or someone else to win the Volunteer of the Year Award

Previous winners of this award include: Pat Wardman, Martyn Hughes, Sylvia Merrett, Edna Smith, Jean Baker and Fiona Protheroe .

Young Citizen of the Year Award

Sponsored by The Coniston Hotel Country Estate and Spa

The Young Citizen of the Year Award will be given to a young citizen aged between 11 - 25 who has made a positive difference in their community or the wider District.

The Awards Panel would be interested in knowing how your nominee has;

  • Made a real impact
  • Shown exceptional commitment to a cause or organisation
  • Brought people together from different backgrounds
  • Inspired others by overcoming an obstacle or going beyond the call of duty

 

Nominate Community Champions yourself or someone else to win the Young Citizen of the Year Award.

Previous winners of this award include: James Sabin, Katie Tutty, Bretton Lord, Phoebe Robinson, Izzi Ellwood and Catherine Sawyer.


In addition to announcing the winners of the seven main categories at the Awards Ceremony, a further award will be made as follows:

Citizen of the Year Award

Sponsored by Yorkshire Housing

This Award will be presented to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to Craven during the past year. The winner of Citizen of the Year is selected from the entries of all the other categories by the judges.

Previous winners of this award include: Pat Wardman, Christopher Porter, Jean Baker, Alex Merrett, Hazel Chatwin and Katie Peacock.
