Safeguarding Children & Vulnerable Adults

We all have a role to play in protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Craven District Council recognises that all children and vulnerable adults have a right to protection from abuse and we are committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and vulnerable adults who we come into contact with through the services we provide. We have policies and procedures in place to protect children and vulnerable adults and have given training to our Councillors, staff and volunteers so they can recognise signs of abuse and know what to do if they see something of concern.

In the Craven area, North Yorkshire County Council is the lead organisation for any concerns for the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.

If you are worried about a child, a young person under the age of 18, or a vulnerable adult, contact  North Yorkshire County Council customer services centre directly on 01609 780780. This number is also available outside of office hours. The Minicom number is 01609 779838.

If you or the person you are concerned about is in danger and immediate action is required, you should ring the emergency services on 999.

If you're concerned that a child or adult is being abused or their safety is at risk, please speak to someone. You don't have to be absolutely certain about your suspicions, anything you notice can help a child or adult at risk. Together, we can tackle abuse.
