Additional Restrictions Grant Scheme (ARG) - March 2022

Business grants from the latest round of the Additional Restrictions Grant Scheme.

The ARG scheme has been revised from 1 March 2022. We are pleased that we are now able to extend support to some businesses in the personal care sector. If your business is in this sector and you have already applied, you do not need to apply again. We will review your application against the updated criteria and let you know if your business now qualifies for a grant. We aim to do this no later than 10th March 2022.

As with other rounds of business grants, the Council has chosen to align the latest Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) scheme with government’s general objectives and principles as defined in the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant (OHLG) Scheme. It is expected that the main beneficiaries of the ARG will be:

  • businesses that are predominantly reliant on delivering in-person services for the general public in the sports, leisure, hospitality and accommodation sectors, and which are not in the Rating List, or
  • businesses within or aligned to sports, leisure, hospitality, accommodation and personal care sectors or associated sectors which are in the Rating List but outside the scope of the OHLG scheme.

In all cases businesses will be required to confirm that they have been severely impacted by the Omicron variant.

Funding available for the ARG is reduced from previous rounds and therefore the Council’s scheme is narrower in scope than previous rounds. This means that many businesses that have previously received a grant from the ARG will not be eligible for the scheme this time. Please check your eligibility before applying.

IMPORTANT: Applicants are urged not to delay in making their applications as funds are limited and the scheme WILL close before the dates detailed below if those funds are exhausted.

The ARG is not a replacement for lost earnings / income – it is a grant primarily intended to help with the fixed costs of the business. The awards are defined, one-off awards and the amounts are:

  • Businesses not in the Rating List: £1750
  • Rateable Value up to £15000: £2667
  • Rateable Value £15001 to £51000: £4000
  • Rateable Value over £51000: £6000

ARG will not be paid if a business is eligible for a grant under the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant (OHLG) Scheme. Where one person or company runs more than one business from the same premises, or where their businesses are connected, only one grant will be paid; this means that if an OHLG grant has been awarded there will be no eligibility for an ARG for the ‘other’ business.

All funding provided under this scheme must be paid to qualifying businesses by 31 March 2022. In order to achieve this dead-line the latest closing date for applications will be midnight on 18th March 2022. The scheme will be closed before that date if all funds are allocated before then.
