Understand how you compare
Energy use can be hard to visualise and know how you compare. You can see if you are above or below average for a home of your size by looking at your bill to find your annual kilowatt hour (kWh) usage for gas or electricity (a unit of energy) and comparing it to our image of what a similar sized home uses.
Another way to get to grips with your energy usage is to use your smart meter. Experiment by switching appliances off one at a time to see what uses the most. You can ask your energy supplier for a smart meter for free: https://www.smartenergygb.org/about-smart-meters/get-a-smart-meter
If you cannot get a smart meter due to connectivity issues there are other energy saving assistants that can you understand your energy usage, such as Loop: https://loop.homes/
