Business Rates - How to pay

Pay online quickly and safely.

Pay Online

Please note that you will need our 11-digit reference (starts with a 5) to use in the 'Reference' field, and you will need to enter the 'Amount' as pounds and pence with a decimal point in between, e.g. 145.32 or 68.00. 

We cannot accept payment via Diners Card or American Express.


Direct Debit

Business Rates can be paid in ten monthly instalments, due on the 1st or 20th of the month.

  • You receive at least 14 days notice of when your bank account will be debited and by how much
  • You are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your bank in the unlikely event of anything going wrong
  • You can cancel the Direct Debit at any time, so you stay in control.  You can forget queues, cheques and stamps
  • You do not have to complete a new mandate each year;   the same one carries on

Alternatively, telephone Customer Services on 01756 700600 and we can set up your direct debit over the telephone - you will need to have your bank account details ready.

This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  

Have your Business Rates account number and your credit/debit card details ready.

We are unable to accept payments on the following cards: 

  • American Express
  • Diners Card

(Telephone calls may be recorded for training and monitoring purposes)

Pay at your local Post Office and any Pay Point outlet

Payment can be made with a bar-coded invoice at no additional cost to you.

You can request a bar-coded invoice by telephoning Customer Services on 01756 700600.  You will need to have your Business Rates account number ready. For more information about your nearest Pay Point Outlet please go to the Allpay website - Allpay Website

If you do not have a a bar-coded invoice, you can still pay at your local Post Office, quoting Girobank No. 6080324, but there may be an additional charge for this service.

Pay by post

Cheques should be made payable to Craven District Council and you should also quote your Business Rates account number, the first line of your address and your post code on the back of the cheque.

Pay in person

We accept payments by cheque, debit or credit card at Customer Services at Council Offices at 1 Belle Vue Square, Skipton, BD23 1FJ.

Please note we are unable to accept payments on the following cards:

  • American Express,
  • Diners Card

Pay by Standing Order

Take your bill to your Bank or Building Society and ask them to set up a standing order in line with the payment details shown on the front of your bill.   

If you wish, you can download a copy of the Standing Order, complete and sign it and take it to your Bank or Building Society - not us. 

You will need to quote the Council's bank account details on the standing Order form which are:

You will also need to quote your Business Rates account number when setting up your standing order.   Please ensure that your bank account is debited at least 10 days before the instalment due date so that payment reaches us on time.
