Stray dogs

Any dog found in a public place that is unsupervised can be seized and taken to council approved kennels.

Before returning a stray dog to its owners, they will need to pay the council for:

  • kennelling fees
  • a £25 charge
  • any other costs incurred

Strays are kept for up to seven days. If a dog is not claimed after seven days, it will be re-homed. Please contact us if you can offer a dog a good home.

Sometimes, a dog will need to be put to sleep on veterinary advice.
