2018 Craven Community Champions Winners

A special prize evening was held at The Coniston Hotel on February 21, 2019, to celebrate the outstanding achievements of Craven's communities. The awards ceremony paid accolade to some amazing people who work hard to help make Craven special. The Awards have been made possible with the kind support of our sponsors, The Coniston Hotel, Broughton Hall, Smart Solutions, Yorkshire Housing, Keelham Farm Shop, Angus Fire, Alexander's and Principle Healthcare.

CCCA 2018 Winners

CHRIS PORTER - WINNER OF THE CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARD (Sponsored by Yorkshire Housing)

The Citizen of the Year Award is an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to Craven during the past year. For more than 10 years Chris has volunteered tirelessly as a self-advocate to improve the lives of his peers who have a learning disability and/or autism. He also volunteers at Oxfam and at the library in Cross Hills.

CANTORES SALICIUM - WINNER OF THE ARTS AND CULTURE AWARD (Sponsored by Alexander's)

Cantores Salicium is a chamber choir that has raised money for a number of local projects including Long Preston Church, Kirkby Malham Church, the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and the Cave Rescue Association

FRIENDS OF EMBSAY WITH EASTBY NATURE RESERVE - WINNER OF GREENER CRAVEN AWARD (Sponsored by Smart Solutions)

This group has transformed the nature reserve, making it more accessible while retaining an important wildlife habitat.

NORTH RIBBLESDALE RUFC - WINNER OF SPORT AND RECREATION AWARD (Sponsored by Principle Healthcare Group)

North Ribblesdale is a rugby club based in Settle which has recently transformed its second pitch, providing fit-for-purpose facilities so all club members can benefit throughout the year. The club has dozens of teams, all run by volunteers.

CANCER SUPPORT YORKSHIRE (SKIPTON CENTRE) - WINNER OF THE HEALTH & WELLBEING AWARD (Sponsored by Broughton Hall)

The centre in Skipton was set up in August 2014 and has supported almost 1,000 people who have been affected by a cancer diagnosis.

MARTYN HUGHES - WINNER OF VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD (Sponsored by Angus Fire)

Martyn is a retained firefighter in Craven and has thrown himself into the task of raising money for the children’s charity Candlelighters, in support of a local boy William Bramley.

KATIE TUTTY  -  WINNER OF THE YOUNG CITIZEN OF THE YEAR AWARD (Sponsored by The Coniston Hotel and Country Estate and Spa)

Katie is a Young Leader with Cubs, fundraises with the Scouts, and is an enthusiastic volunteer at Skipton Library.
