2018 Craven Community Champions Awards

There are seven Community Champions Awards categories for you to nominate your local champion.

The Awards are open for nominations from October 11, 2018 until November 29, 2018.

Nominations must be received by Craven District Council by midnight on November 29 2018.

All shortlisted entrants will be invited to an awards evening at the Coniston Hotel on February 21, 2019.

Arts and Culture Award

Sponsored by Alexander's Bar & Kitchen

The Arts and Culture Award celebrates a community group or individual that have made a contribution to arts, heritage or cultural activities in their community or the wider District.

The Awards Panel would be interested in knowing how your nominee has;

  • Helped to promote excellence and innovation in the arts.
  • Helped to make arts and culture accessible to everyone in the community.
  • Made a positive difference to improving the well-being of residents
  • Been creative in making the most of the resources available to them.

 

Nominate Community Champions yourself or someone else to win the Arts and Culture Award

Previous winners of the award include: Team Ketchup, Skipton Embroiders Guild, Joan Murray, Pioneer Projects and Settle Victoria Hall 

Greener Craven Award

Sponsored by Smart Solutions

The Greener Craven Award recognises a community group or individual that have made a contribution to enhancing their local environment or the wider District. This could be cleaning up a green space or starting a recycling initiative or starting an allotment group or organising a clothes swap.

The Awards Panel would be interested in knowing how your nominee has;

  • Motivated and inspired others to get involved
  • Made a positive difference and how they have improved the environment for their community
  • Actively promoted environmental issues within their community

 

Nominate Community Champions yourself or someone else to win the Greener Craven Award.

Previous winners of this award include: Embsay Primary School, Long Preston Floodplain, Gawflat Meadow, Pioneer Projects and Langcliffe Community Garden.

 

Sport and Recreation Award

Sponsored by Principle Healthcare

The Sport and Recreation Award recognises an amateur sports club, community group or individual that have have made an outstanding contribution to amateur sport, physical activity or play in their community or the wider District.

The Awards Panel would be interested in knowing how your nominee has;

  • Motivated and inspired others to participate in physical activity
  • Helped to make physical activity more accessible to everyone in their community
  • Helped to promote excellence in their field of activity
  • Made a positive difference to improving the well-being of residents

 

Nominate Community Champions yourself or someone else to win the Sport and Recreation Award.

Anita Hoggarth

 

Health & Wellbeing Award 

Sponsored by Broughton Hall Estate  

The Health & Wellbeing Award recognises a community group or individual that has made a contribution to improving the health and wellbeing of local people by providing care to vulnerable people, bringing the community together to look after each other or helping people to live healthier lives in their community or the wider District.

  • When judging the application, the Awards Panel will look for examples of how your nominee has: 
  • Made a positive difference to improving the well-being of residents
  • Motivated and supported people to live healthier lives
  • Brought people together to  vulnerable people in their community
  • This is a new award for this year.

Best Community Group Award

The Best Community Group Award recognises a voluntary or community group that has made a positive impact on people's lives or has made a significant contribution to their community or in the wider District.

The Awards Panel would be interested in knowing how your nominee has;

  • Encouraged new members to get involved.
  • Made itself welcoming and accessible to everyone in the community
  • Made a positive difference to and improved the well-being of a community

Previous winners of the award include: Scoff Cafe, Carleton Community Umbrella, Yorkshire Housing Computer Club, Street Angels and Friends of Aireville Park 

 

Volunteer of the Year Award

Sponsored by Angus Fire

The Volunteer of the Year Award rewards an individual who has made an outstanding contribution through volunteering in 2018.

The Awards Panel would be interested in knowing how your nominee has;

  • Shown commitment to a cause or organisation
  • Has acted as a role model/ambassador for volunteering
  • Motivated and inspired others to get involved in their cause or organisation
  • Made a positive difference and has improved the well-being of residents or a community in general

 

Nominate Community Champions yourself or someone else to win the Volunteer of the Year Award

Previous winners of this award include: Sylvia Merrett, Edna Smith, Jean Baker and Fiona Protheroe .

Young Citizen of the Year Award

Sponsored by The Coniston Hotel Country Estate and Spa

The Young Citizen of the Year Award will be given to a young citizen aged between 11 - 25 who has made a positive difference in their community or the wider District.

The Awards Panel would be interested in knowing how your nominee has;

  • Made a real impact
  • Shown exceptional commitment to a cause or organisation
  • Brought people together from different backgrounds
  • Inspired others by overcoming an obstacle or going beyond the call of duty

 

Nominate Community Champions yourself or someone else to win the Young Citizen of the Year Award.

Previous winners of this award include: Bretton Lord, Phoebe Robinson, Izzi Ellwood and Catherine Sawyer.


In addition to announcing the winners of the seven main categories at the Awards Ceremony, a further award will be made as follows:

Citizen of the Year Award

Sponsored by Yorkshire Housing

This Award will be presented to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to Craven during the past year. The winner of Citizen of the Year is selected from the entries of all the other categories by the judges.

Previous winners of this award include: Jean Baker, Alex Merrett, Hazel Chatwin and Katie Peacock.
