Craven District Council

Allowances for Councillors

The council publishes details of its Allowances' Scheme for Councillors, together with amounts paid to them on an annual basis.

Independent Remuneration Panel

The Local Government and Housing Act 1989 and the Local Government Act 2000 provide for Craven District Council to operate a Scheme of Members' Allowances.  Such a Scheme is recommended by an Independent Remuneration Panel, appointed by Craven District Council, although it does not consist of individuals who are directly associated with the Council.

The Allowances' Scheme provides for the payment of allowances to Members, and co-optees, which may include provision for a basic allowance, special responsibility allowances, dependant carers' allowances, and travel and subsistence allowances.  Allowances are paid to the Chairman of the Council and the Vice-Chairman, although this is provided for under different legislation.

The Independent Remuneration Panel recently concluded a review of the scheme of allowances and a copy of its report is available to download within the list of downloads to be found on this page. The Panel's recommendations were adopted at a meeting of the Council held on 6th October 2015.
