Swimming Lessons

Classes and Lessons for all ages and abilities, for beginners and improvers.

Here at Craven Leisure we have swimming lessons to suit everyone’s age and ability.

Learn to Swim Crash Course

If your child's water confidence needs a boost and you would like to give them a head start with learning to swim, book them onto our Learn To Swim Crash Course during the school holidays.

  • £24 for four half hour lessons running between 8am and 10am Tuesday to Friday
  • Suitable for children 4-7 years old
  • Places are limited to a maximum of 6 per course

Swimming Lessons

All of our lessons are held over a 12 week block. We do not have lessons on Bank Holidays (we adjust the prices accordingly) or over the Christmas break. Our block lesson dates are shown in the below calendar:

Pay for lessons

All payments for swimming lessons need to be paid by Direct Debit on or around the first of the month. This helps to keep costs down and make it affordable and available to all families.

Swimming lessons

Aqua Babes

An ideal opportunity for parents and babies to develop water confidence in a fun, enjoyable and relaxing environment.

Parents accompany their child in the pool

Recommended Age/Ability

12 weeks – 2 years

Class Times

Mondays 11am and Wednesdays 1pm during term time only

The classes are 30 minutes long. Pre-booking is advised for both classes

Aqua Tots

Provides toddlers with an introduction to swimming and a way of developing their own independence. This class prepares the child for both the swim tots class and Craven's Learn2Swim programme.

Parents accompany their child in the pool

2-4 years

Times

Mondays 11.30am and Wednesdays 1.30pm during term time only.

The classes are 30 minutes long. Due to demand, booking is required for both classes.

Swim Tots

Children are accompanied by a teacher in the water who will guide them through a structured lesson, enabling them to continue developing their water confidence and independence before progressing on to the Learn2Swim programme.

Recommended Age/Ability

3-4 years

Class Times

Wednesday and Friday 11.30am and Tuesdays between 1pm and 3pm during term time only. The classes are 30 minutes long. This class runs as a course.

Learn to Swim Stage 1

This class helps children to develop basic safety awareness and to gain basic water confidence and basic movement skills (multi-stroke) and of course FUN!

Award: Puffin, Stage 1, 5m

Recommended Age/Ability

For children aged 4 years and over who are non-swimmers.

Times

Every evening and on Saturday mornings. The classes are 30 minutes long. This class runs as a course.

Learn to Swim Stage 2

This class helps children to develop safe entries into the water including jumping, basic floating, travel and rotation.

Award: Stage 2 and 10m

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who can swim 5m on their front and back and have completed the stage 1 syllabus.

Every evening and on Saturday mornings. The classes are 30 minutes long. This class runs as a course.

Learn to Swim Stage 3

This class helps children to develop front crawl, back stroke and breaststroke and gives them an introduction to deep water.

Award: Stage 3 and 15m

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who can swim 10m of Front crawl and back stroke as well as achieving the stage 2 syllabus.

Every evening and on Saturday mornings. The classes are 30 minutes long. This class runs as a course.

Learn To Swim Stage 4

This stage is taught in the big pool working towards swimming a length. At this stage the main emphasis is on developing their stroke techniques.

Award: Stage 4 and 20m

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who can swim 10m of Front crawl and back stroke with good technique and 10m basic breaststroke as well as achieving stage 3 syllabus.

Every evening and on Saturday mornings. The classes are 30 minutes long. This class runs as a course.

Learn To Swim Stage 5

Children are required to perform all strokes to the given standard as directed by the ASA.

Award: Stage 5 and 25m

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who can swim 20m of all strokes with good techniques as well as achieving stage 4 syllabus

Times

Every evening and on Saturday mornings. The classes are 30 minutes long. This class runs as a course.

Learn To Swim Stage 6

This class develops the water safety aspects and the understanding of preparation for exercise and be able to swim confidently.

Award: Stage 6 and 50m

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who can swim 25m of all strokes as well as achieving stage 5 syllabus

Times

Every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evening. The classes are 30 minutes long. This class runs as a course.

Learn To Swim Stage 7

This stage incorporates all the skills learnt throughout the scheme and combines them to develop a linked routine and complete an obstacle course successfully.

Award: Stage 7 and 100m, 200m.

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who can swim 50m using multi-strokes as well as achieving stage 6 syllabus.

Times

Every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evening. The classes are 30 minutes long. This class runs as a course.

If, after completing up to Swim Stage 7, your child would like to continue to develop their swimming skills, we have a number of fun and challenging options for them. They can choose from Rookie Lifeguards, Aquatastic, Mini Water Polo or Junior Swim Fit. See below for some further details on each of these classes:

Rookie Lifeguards

A programme designed to ensure that children have the essential water skills to keep themselves safe and have the knowledge of what to do in an emergency.

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who have completed Learn To Swim Levels 1 to 7

Every Friday at 7pm. The classes are 30 minutes long

Aquatastic

For children who have completed their learn to swim programme and would like to learn basic synchronised swimming skills.

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who have completed Lean To Swim Levels 1 to 7.

Times

Every Thursday at 7pm. The classes are 30 minutes long.

Mini Water Polo

A basic introduction to water polo giving children a chance to take part in another aquatic discipline.

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who have completed Learn To Swim Levels 1 to 7.

Times

Every Wednesday at 7pm. The class lasts 1 hour.

Junior Swim Fit

For children who have completed the Learn To Swim programme and want to continue swimming, working on their general fitness whilst they continue to develop their strokes and technique.

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who have completed Learn To Swim Levels 1 to 7.

Times

Every Monday at 6pm & 6:45pm and Friday at 6:15pm. The class lasts 45 minutes.

Junior Beginners

For older children who have not completed Learn To Swim levels 1 to 3 and who need to gain water confidence.

Award: As per stages 1, 2 and 3

Recommended Age/Ability

For children aged 8 plus who who have not completed stages 1 to 3.

Adult Swimming Lessons

Adult Beginners

A class designed to help to build water confidence and overcome any fears. Helping people to feel at ease in the water so that they feel able to start to swim across the pool.

Recommended Age/Ability

For individuals who want to develop their water confidence.

Every Monday at 7:30pm. The class runs as a course of 12.
