Swimming Lessons

Apply for swimming lessons at Craven Leisure.

Due to very high demand we have closed the waiting list for stage 1 and 2, along with our preschool Duckling sessions

We offer a wide range of fun and engaging swimming lessons all year round, ranging from preschool Ducklings all the way through to pre competitive sessions

Wait times vary across all levels with the longest waits being for those sessions at the lower end of our program.

The Swimazing Program

Aqua Babes (Ages 12 weeks – 16 Months)

An ideal opportunity for parents and babies to develop water confidence in a fun, enjoyable and relaxing environment.

Parents accompany their child in the pool. No booking required.

Class Times (30mins)

10:30 am every Monday and Friday (term time only). 


Aqua Tots ( Ages 16 Months - 3 years)

The next step, as your child grow's so will their confidence and their ability to follow instructions. Give them more freedom as they start to swim more independently.

11.00 am every Monday and Friday (term time only). 


Ducklings (Ages 3-4 Years)

Children are accompanied by a teacher in the water who will guide them through a structured lesson, enabling them to continue developing their water confidence and independence before progressing on to the Learn2Swim programme.

We are not currently taking any further applications for duckling sessions due to high demand


Learn to Swim Stage 1

This class helps children to develop basic Safety awareness and to gain basic water confidence and basic movement skills (multi-stroke) and of course FUN!

We are not currently taking any further applications for Stage 1 sessions due to high demand


Learn to Swim Stage 2

This class helps children to develop safe entries into the water including jumping, basic floating, travel and rotation.

We are not currently taking any further applications for Stage 2 sessions due to high demand


Learn to Swim Stage 3

This class helps children to develop front crawl, back stroke and breaststroke and gives them an introduction to deep water.

Award: Stage 3 and 15m

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who can swim 10m of Front crawl and back stroke as well as achieving the stage 2 syllabus.

Times

Every evening and on Saturday mornings. The classes are 30 minutes long. This class runs as a course.


Learn to Swim Stage 4

This stage is taught in the big pool working towards swimming a length. At this stage the main emphasis is on developing their stroke techniques.

Award: Stage 4 and 20m

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who can swim 10m of Front crawl and back stroke with good technique and 10m basic breaststroke as well as achieving stage 3 syllabus.

Times

Every evening and on Saturday mornings. The classes are 30 minutes long. This class runs as a course.


Learn to Swim Stage 5

Children are required to perform all strokes to the given standard as directed by the ASA.

Award: Stage 5 and 25m

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who can swim 20m of all strokes with good techniques as well as achieving stage 4 syllabus

Times

Every evening and on Saturday mornings. The classes are 30 minutes long. This class runs as a course.


Learn to Swim Stage 6

This class develops the water safety aspects and an understanding of preparation for exercise and be able to swim confidently.

Award: Stage 6 and 50m

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who can swim 25m of all strokes as well as achieving stage 5 syllabus

Times

Every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evening. The classes are 30 minutes long. This class runs as a course.


Learn To Swim Stage 7

This stage incorporates all the skills learnt throughout the scheme and combines them to develop a linked routine and complete an obstacle course successfully.

Award: Stage 7

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who can swim 50m using multi-strokes as well as achieving stage 6 syllabus.

Times

Every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evening. The classes are 30 minutes long. This class runs as a course.


If, after completing up to Swim Stage 7, your child would like to continue to develop their swimming skills, we have a number of fun and challenging options for them. They can choose from Rookie Lifeguards, Aquatastic, Mini Water Polo or Junior Swim Fit. See below for some further details on each of these classes:

Rookie Lifeguards

A programme designed to ensure that children have the essential water skills to keep themselves safe and have the knowledge of what to do in an emergency.

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who have completed Learn to Swim Levels 11-11 to 7

Times

Every Friday at 7pm. The classes are 30 minutes long

Aquatastic

For children who have completed their learn to swim programme and would like to learn basic synchronised swimming skills.

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who have completed Learn to Swim Levels 1 to 7.

Times

Every Thursday at 7pm. The classes are 30 minutes long.


Mini Water Polo

A basic introduction to water polo giving children as chance to take part in another aquatic discipline.

Recommended Age/Ability

For children who have completed Learn to Swim Levels 1 to 7.

Times

Every Wednesday at 7pm. The class lasts 1 hour.


Junior Swim Fit

For children who have completed the Learn to Swim programme and want to continue swimming, working on their general fitness whilst they continue to develop their strokes and technique.

Recommended age/Ability

For children who have completed Learn to Swim Levels 1 to 7.

Times

Every Monday at 6pm & 6:45pm and Friday at 6pm. The class lasts 45 minutes.


Junior Beginners

For older children who have not completed Learn to Swim levels 1 to 3 and who need to gain water confidence.

Award: As per stages 1, 2 and 3

Recommended Age/Ability

For children aged 8 plus who have not completed stages 1 to 3.

Adult Swimming Lessons

Adult Beginners

A class designed to help to build water confidence and overcome any fears. Helping people to feel at ease in the water so that they feel able to start to swim across the pool.

Recommended Age/Ability

For individuals who want to develop their water confidence.

Times

Every Monday at 7:30pm. The class runs as a course of 12. 

Adult Improvers

A class to work with individuals helping to improve your technique or learn new strokes and skills.

Recommended Age/Ability

For individuals who want to develop their swimming skills.

Times

Every Monday at 7:30pm. The class runs as a course of 12.
