In 2015, the Council commissioned consultants, Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners to deliver a Retail and Leisure Study that provides a robust evidence base on the health of the District's town and village centre.
As with the previous Retail Study completed in 2004 the Study investigated the towns of Bentham, Cross Hills, Grassington, Ingleton, Settle and Skipton. To ensure a robust but readable and informative document the format of the Study is presented as a series of six town centre health checks and a main Retail and Leisure Study.
Town Centre Health Checks
For each of the towns in the Study an assessment of town centre health was conducted using the guidance in the National Planning Policy Framework. This included the makeup of town centre businesses, vacancy rates, customer perceptions and environmental quality.

Craven Retail and Leisure Study
The purpose of the Retail and Leisure Study is to assess current convenience and comparison retail and leisure offer across Craven, quantify current shopping patterns, the requirement, or not for additional retail floorspace and recommendations for town centre policy.
